HEAD RED SHIRAZ
Head Red is made up of the parcels of fruit that don't quite make it into Head Wines famed "The Blonde", "The Brunette" and "The Contrarian" - three single vineyard Shiraz dominant wines each with their own unique quirks and wine-making processes. The Head Red is often an accurate preview of the upcoming vintage for these wines, softened by 12 months in French oak and with an unmistakeably South Australian dry finish, the Head Red Shiraz is simply slurpable and very much over delivers for the price.
"There's a lot happening here, all of it good. 80% is sourced from the Eden Valley, 20% the Barossa Valley, co-fermented on skins for 14 days, matured in French oak (10% new), the barrel size ranging from 225l to 2250l. There's a poultice of red and black fruits and ribbons of fine, ripe tannins. You can't deny a wine like this." - James Halliday (Halliday Wine Companion)
